Musical Growth
With the coming of a new decade, a new way of broadcasting music came about. The FM radio was created in 1941 and was proposed, by Edwin Armstrong in 1922, to be immune to static, unlike all of the other radio stations that were currently on the air. But due to the outbreak of World War 2 the development of the FM radio was interrupted, but once complete it began to gain popularity in the 1950's. Another new award came out for the musician's who reach the top of the music charts was called a Gold Record. Glenn Miller was the first person to ever receive a Gold Record for his million selling hit, "Chattanooga Choo Choo."

Dizzy Gillespie
Dizzy Gillespie was a South Carolina native who excelled at playing the trumpet. Gillespie originally started out playing with prominent swing bands, including Benny Carter and Charlie Barnet. But as Gillespie's music career developed, his signature playing style also developed. Gillespie went on to create a new sound, which we know today as "bebop". As a result of this new sound, which Gillespie created, he is known fro being one of the most influential jazz and bebop musicians of the 1940's. |
Artie Shaw
Artie Shaw was a jazz bandleader and an excellent clarinetist during the 1940's. Shaw was known as the "King of Clarinets" during the 1940's because he produced hits that kept a rival alive between Shaw and Benny Goodman. Shaw was notorious for his dislike of his fans because Shaw was tired of all the attention that he was receiving from his new music. Shaw even expressed his dislike of his fans by calling them "morons". But after a few months Shaw came back to the spotlight with new music in order to complete his contract with the company RCA Victor. Shaw's career was mainly focused on being innovative and creating new music rather than pleasing his fans. |
Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra began his career in big bands at an early age. He moved into his solo career in the 1940's leading on into the 50's. He became extremely success winning favor with the women and rising quickly to the top of the charts. Not only was Sinatra a successful musician he also was the winner of several grammy's for his acting performances. |
