With the coming of the 1990's came with the development of new technology and music. The PC computer and world wide web came out allowing people to view and listen to music from the comforts of their own homes. The 1990s continued the electronic sound with high popularity in genres of hip hop, rock, rap, reggae, and teen-pop. CD-ROMs started to come into use and records began to fall out of style. Backstreet Boys
The Backstreet Boys are considered one of the most popular pop bands to ever "hit the charts." The Backstreet Boys band consisted of Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and Brian Littrell. The boys started the "era of boy bands" with rival band 'N Sync. The bands first album was released in 1997, over 13 million copies were sold, making the band one of the most best selling bands at that point in history. |
Nirvana
Nirvana was a major record label led by Kurt Cobain in the 1990's. Nirvana was labeled a grunge band because of their mixture of punk and heavy metal, with the mixture of "soft and thrashing sounds," but they were also considered rock legends. Cobain was considered one of the best songwriters of his generation. Sadly, the bands leader, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide, leading to the end of the band. |
Mariah Carrey
Mariah Carrey was a pop diva singer, songwriter, music producer, and actress, who found her start during the 1990's. Carrey currently holds the record for the No. 1 debut albums in Billboard history. She has won Academy-Awards for her hit singles and also sang a duet with Whitney Houston for the movie "The Prince of Egypt." In recent years, Carrey has been appointed a judge for the TV show American Idol. |
